Four Indians killed in attack on ship leaving Ukraine's Odesa, New Delhi says
India condemned the strike on the MV Golden Leo as a threat to civilian shipping after four nationals were killed and one was critically injured.
- On the evening of July 19, the Guinea-Bissau-flagged vessel MV GOLDEN LEO was "attacked" while departing the port of Odesa, carrying 17 crew members including five Indian nationals.
- Moscow and Kyiv have intensified attacks in the Black Sea and Sea of Azov, targeting key revenue sources after a period when shipping had largely resumed under a grain export deal.
- On Monday, the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed four Indian nationals were killed and one remains in critical condition, while India condemned the strike as "deplorable and should be avoided."
- Separately, a Russian attack on the city of Odesa on Monday killed three people and wounded three others, with local military authorities reporting damage to infrastructure facilities.
- Russian strikes have killed 28 people in the Odesa region so far this month, and Ukraine has lost about a third of its grain export capacity via Black Sea ports due to ongoing attacks.
