Russia Takes Full Control of Ukraine's Luhansk Region, Russian-Backed Official Says
- Leonid Pasechnik, the Russia-appointed leader of Luhansk, said Moscow's forces have fully captured the eastern Ukrainian region on Monday.
- This claim follows Russia's illegal annexation of Luhansk and three other regions in September 2022, although Moscow had not fully controlled any at that time.
- The ongoing war of more than three years involves large-scale Russian drone strikes and long-range attacks, killing thousands and pressuring Ukraine over a 1,000-kilometer front line.
- During his visit to Kyiv with defense industry officials, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul emphasized that their collaboration on weapons production is a key advantage in helping Ukraine accelerate and expand its own arms manufacturing.
- Russia's full control of Luhansk, if confirmed, would mark the first region entirely occupied since 2014, reinforcing Moscow's rejection of ceasefire and complicating peace talks.
