Russian rocket puts Iran satellite into space: Iran media
VOSTOCHNY COSMODROME, SIBERIA, RUSSIA, JUL 25 – The launch deployed two Russian ionosphere-monitoring satellites and Iran's domestically-built Nahid-2 communications satellite designed for a five-year mission, officials said.
- On July 25, 2025, Roscosmos launched a Soyuz 2.1b rocket carrying two Ionosfera-M satellites, an Iranian Nahid-2 satellite, and 18 secondary payloads from Vostochny Cosmodrome.
- Having forged a strategic treaty in January, Russia signed an agreement with Iran, commissioning a multi-satellite mission involving the Iranian Space Agency and Iranian Space Research Center.
- RussianSpaceWeb said Ionosfera-M 3 and 4 will fly in a plane perpendicular to their predecessors, expanding three-dimensional magnetosphere coverage, and Nahid-2 features an indigenous propulsion system capable of altitude adjustment by 50 kilometers.
- The satellite’s endurance supports operational longevity, as Nahid-2's Iranian-made lithium-ion batteries are designed for tens of thousands of charge cycles.
- Nahid-2 is set for a five-year lifespan, reflecting Iran's ongoing plans for sustained space operations amid broader international cooperation trends.
