Russia hosts top diplomats from Sahel countries for talks on boosting security ties

The representatives of Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso, the three countries of the Alliance of Sahel States, met with their Russian counterpart on Thursday. On the menu of discussions, the strengthening of their military and economic cooperation.

Lavrov stated that Russia will “strengthen the military capabilities of the Sahel countries”. According to the Foreign Affairs Minister, Ukraine “supports terrorist groups in this part of Africa”.

After a meeting with the heads of Foreign Affairs of the three countries, Lavrov stressed that Russian support will focus on three priority areas: defense, security, economics and diplomacy. The chancellor stressed that assistance will include the strengthening of the joint armed forces, through training, supply of weapons and military equipment. Additionally, Moscow will provide support in strategic sectors such as agriculture and energy.
