Charity rowers MP mistook for migrants welcome blunder as it helped boost donations
Rupert Lowe’s false claim that charity rowers were migrants increased public donations by over £30,000 and raised awareness for motor neurone disease research.
- A team of charity rowers arrived at the Forth Bridge near Edinburgh after covering 900 miles in their circumnavigation of Britain, which began on July 25.
- The rowers have faced challenges, including sleep deprivation and being misidentified as a 'migrant dinghy' by MP Rupert Lowe, which unexpectedly increased their donations by £30,000.
- So far, the Row4MND team has raised over £135,000, aiming to gather £57 million for motor neurone disease research, said co-founder Matt Parker.
- The crew plans to complete the rest of their circumnavigation next year.
