- Handlers say the dog fled during a routine bathroom break; Abbie was being moved from a South Carolina shelter to a planned new home in Maine with several other dogs.
- Volunteers combined tracking-tag data and drone scans to narrow the search, using an AirTag on Abbie's harness and a thermal imaging drone from New Jersey-based Unmanned Search and Rescue.
- Woodbridge Township Police recovered Abbie around 2 a.m. Sunday about 15 miles from escape, finding her cold and fearful with a hip injury needing surgery, treated at Tri-State Veterinary Hospital.
- Late Monday, the rescue group posted that Abbie is staying in South Carolina and will be adopted by the Columbia family that had been fostering her, cancelling the transport to Maine.
