Mom Who Lost Son at 14 Says Cancer Was ‘Completely Off Our Radar’
A 13-year-old boy named Fred showed signs of tiredness and loss of appetite, which were initially thought to be normal adolescent changes and effects of the school year's end.
Swollen glands led to a visit to a general practitioner who ordered a blood test to check for glandular fever.
Hours after the blood test, Fred was diagnosed with leukemia at the emergency department.
Fred died nine months after diagnosis, shortly after receiving CAR T-cell treatment.
