Rubio leads Vance by 36 points in new 2028 GOP straw poll

The small survey of more than 500 attendees also gave Rubio an 85% approval rating, while Vance received 71%, organizers said.

  • In DENVER, Colorado, Secretary of State Marco Rubio dominated the Western Conservative Summit straw poll yesterday, receiving 57% support among more than 500 attendees compared to 21% for Vice President Vance.
  • Attendees could choose among 27 Republican and Democratic figures in the informal survey. Centennial Institute Director Greg Schaller noted the results reflect grassroots trust in Rubio's commitment to faith and freedom.
  • On a separate approval question, Rubio received 85%, while Vice President Vance garnered 71% and Ron DeSantis 55%. Former Vice President Mike Pence finished third at 5%, with Rep. Thomas Massie and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis at 4% each.
  • Neither Rubio nor Vance has announced a 2028 campaign. Rubio previously said he would defer to Vance, who intends to discuss a potential run after the November midterm elections.
  • Recent broader polling has shown Vance leading the GOP field, contrasting sharply with these activist-driven results. President Donald Trump has repeatedly discussed the race, suggesting Vance and Rubio would make a formidable ticket.
