ROCHESTER, NEW YORK, AUG 1 – Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration are examining the cause after one person died and another was injured in the crash.

  • A Piper J-5 Cub Cruiser single-engine plane went down around 1:30 p.m. Friday on a roadway close to Maplewood Park in Rochester, resulting in one fatality and one injury.
  • Two witnesses saw the plane descend rapidly before crashing, and Rochester Police Captain Greg Bello said no vehicles were involved in the incident.
  • The Rochester Fire Department rescued people from the crash site where a fuel leak occurred and was contained by a hazmat team, and Bridge View Drive remains closed.
  • The National Transportation Safety Board will send an investigator Saturday to document the site and examine the aircraft as the FAA and NTSB investigate the cause.
  • Bello said he has never seen a plane crash in his 18 years on the force, and the crash triggered prolonged investigations and road closures in Rochester.
