Royals’ Cole Ragans nears return with a Triple-A rehab start after elbow injury
Cole Ragans is expected to throw 60 to 65 pitches as he works back from a left elbow impingement.
On Saturday, Kansas City Royals left-hander Cole Ragans will make a rehab start for Triple-A Omaha as he recovers from an elbow injury, the team announced on Friday.
Ragans was pulled from a game against the Cleveland Guardians on May 6 after throwing 58 pitches in three scoreless innings, then placed on the 15-day injured list on May 8 with a left elbow impingement.
The All-Star holds a 1-4 record with a 4.84 ERA this season after undergoing Tommy John surgeries in 2018 and 2019, then returning to the major leagues in August 2022.
During his Triple-A Omaha appearance, the plan calls for Ragans to throw four to five innings, or 60 to 65 pitches, to rebuild durability after the layoff.
Meanwhile, Kansas City reliever Carlos Est faces a setback after experiencing shoulder discomfort during a rehab appearance on Wednesday and will be shut down for three weeks.
