The purge of Bayardo Arce Castaño, one of the nine commanders of the Sandinista revolution and historically close to Daniel Ortega, has spread terror among the old guard of the Red Party, still loyal to the warlord but always confronting the almighty co-president Rosario Murillo. Presidential economic adviser, Arce was arrested on the night of July 26 by a contingent of special police operations that intervened his home and office in Managua.
