Rory McIlroy Shoots 67 to Move Into Contention at Truist Championship, 4 Shots Back of Sungjae Im
McIlroy’s 67 left him four shots behind Sungjae Im after 36 holes, while Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler also stayed in range.
On Friday, McIlroy heated up on the back nine at Quail Hollow, shooting a 4-under 67 to climb into contention at the Truist Championship, four shots behind leader Sungjae Im.
Sungjae Im holds the lead at 9-under 133, while Tommy Fleetwood trails by one shot after posting a 67 for the second straight day.
Rickie Fowler vaulted into the mix with the day's low round of 8-under 63, while Justin Thomas sits two back alongside PGA Tour newcomer Alex Fitzpatrick.
Chandler Blanchet recorded a hole-in-one on the par-3 17th hole, while McIlroy reflected, "I started to make some good swings, especially with the irons."
Cameron Young shot 70 and trails by five shots heading into the weekend, while McIlroy seeks to leverage four previous wins in Charlotte to close the gap.
