Rory McIlroy Heads to Driving Range After Slipping Off Pace at BMW Championship
McIlroy’s one-shot gain left him seven under and sent him to the driving range after he lost ground to the leaders.
On Friday, Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy shot a 69 at the BMW Championship in Missouri, slipping to 7 under par. The Masters champion struggled to maintain his opening-round momentum after starting with a 6-under 64.
American JJ Spaun holds the clubhouse lead at 10 under par after a second-round 66, moving ahead of McIlroy. Spaun recovered from three back-nine bogeys with two birdies, including one at the 18th.
Wyndham Clark currently leads the field at 12 under par after back-to-back 64s, while Patrick Cantlay sits at 8 under. World number one Scottie Scheffler recovered to 3 under after an early bogey.
McIlroy noted that "conditions were pretty similar to yesterday," describing the course as "still very scorable" despite soft greens. He headed straight to the driving range after the round to work on his game.
Bryson DeChambeau responded to criticisms about LIV Golf's value, stating "I think we just have a bit of a responsibility to continue to show this." DeChambeau added that Time will heal divisions within professional golf.
