- On July 10, Romania launched a program to replace outdated MLI-84 infantry fighting vehicles with about 246 new tracked vehicles over eight years.
- This initiative follows growing regional instability after Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, which increased threats along Romania’s 650-km border and caused repeated drone fragment landings.
- Romania also signed a strategic €2 billion deal on Monday to acquire Israeli Shorad-Vshorad air defense systems aimed at protecting national airspace within NATO frameworks.
- Meanwhile, Poland contracted in March to buy 111 Borsuk tracked infantry fighting vehicles worth $1.8 billion from PGZ, with deliveries planned from 2025 to 2029.
- Both countries emphasize local production: Romania plans domestic manufacturing after initial imports, and Poland is evaluating whether to develop or license IFVs, reflecting broader regional defense cooperation trends.
