Rolls-Royce SMR has won a "multi-billion pound" contract to build three small modular nuclear reactors for Sweden, marking a major step in the British engineering group's ambition to become a leading supplier of the technology in Europe.
Sweden's three new small nuclear reactors will be turned on in the mid-2030s, with components not made on site but in factories.
The British company Rolls-Royce has stabbed its US competitor GE – and won the contract for a billion-dollar SMR project on the Swedish west coast. Geopolitical considerations have also played a role.
