Rogers Launches Satellite-to-Mobile Service, First of Its Kind in Canada

CANADA, JUL 15 – Rogers Satellite expands connectivity to remote and rural Canada, covering 5.4 million square kilometres—over 2.5 times more than competitors, with free beta trial until October.

  • Today, Rogers Communications Inc. launched Rogers Satellite, covering the 58th parallel in a free beta trial.
  • After partnering with Starlink two years ago, Rogers launched satellite-to-mobile service to fill network gaps where ground infrastructure is not cost-effective.
  • Initially, the beta trial supports text messaging and text-to-911, and any Canadian with a 4G or 5G mobile phone can register for free until October, Rogers press release stated.
  • Chris Mushumanski, President of BC Search and Rescue Association, called it `a game changer`, while the service improves emergency access in remote areas.
  • By October 31, 2025, Rogers Satellite's trial will end, with plans to expand support to IoT devices, data, and voice services. Rogers said future partnerships depend on coverage and quality.
