- On Thursday, Rogers Communications Inc. finalized its $4.35 billion purchase of the remaining 25 per cent stake in Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment from Larry Tanenbaum's Kilmer Sports Inc., securing 100 per cent ownership.
- The deal unites MLSE properties—the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors, Toronto FC, and Toronto Argonauts—with Rogers' existing assets including the Toronto Blue Jays, Rogers Centre, and Sportsnet under a new Rogers Sports business unit.
- Effective immediately, Keith Pelley, President and CEO of MLSE, will lead the new Rogers Sports unit while retaining his MLSE role; Mark Shapiro, President and CEO of the Toronto Blue Jays, remains in his position.
- Rogers estimates the combined sports and media assets are worth more than $25 billion and plans to sell minority stakes to investors by the first half of 2027 to pay down company debt.
