Rodney Bennett resigns after less than three years amid $44.5 million in budget cuts and a 60-14 faculty no-confidence vote at University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

  • On Monday, Rodney Bennett, chancellor of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, announced in an email to students, faculty and staff he will resign effective Jan. 12.

  • He also thanked students, crediting his achievements including stabilizing enrollment and setting records, and quoted Bennett: `I want to express my appreciation to our outstanding students, for all that you bring not only to the university, but also to the city of Lincoln and the state of Nebraska. Your energy, your enthusiasm, your optimism, and your determination to do your part to make our communities, our state, and our world better are an inspiration to us all, and it has been my highest honor and privilege to have served as your Chancellor`, Bennett wrote.
  • University of Nebraska President Jeffrey Gold tapped Kathy Ankerson, who retired Dec. 31, 2024, to serve as interim chancellor and said they plan listening sessions soon.
  • Gold said Bennett's work has positioned the University of Nebraska-Lincoln well for the future as it nears joint accreditation with the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and Bennett indicated he will remain in education.
