NBC’s ‘The Rockford Files’ Ordered to Series
NBC ordered two dramas and two comedies from Universal Television, with the pilots generating about 4,000 jobs, the network said.
Ahead of its upfront presentation on Monday, NBC picked up four new series for the 2026-2027 broadcast season: dramas The Rockford Files and Line of Fire, plus comedies Sunset PI and Newlyweds.
All four shows from Universal Television emerged from a larger-than-usual eight-pilot slate NBC ordered this year, generating approximately 4,000 jobs among cast, crew, and production teams across the United States.
The lineup features high-profile talent: David Boreanaz leads The Rockford Files reboot, Peter Krause stars in Line of Fire, Jake Johnson anchors Sunset PI, and Tea Leoni and Tim Daly headline Newlyweds.
NBC also renewed existing dramas Law & Order and Chicago Med, while passing on four remaining pilots including Key Witness, Puzzled, and What The Dead Know.
Pearlena Igbokwe, chairman of NBC Entertainment, called the slate an "embarrassment of riches," stating the process allowed the network to "take big swings" and land shows that "can truly break through.
