Roblox Rolls Out System to Spot Child-Endangerment Chat Messages
WAPELLO COUNTY, IOWA, AUG 7 – Sentinel analyzes 6 billion daily messages to identify grooming behaviors and has led to 1,200 reports of potential child exploitation in early 2025, Roblox said.
- On August 7, 2025, Roblox announced Roblox Sentinel, an AI system analyzing over six billion daily chat messages to detect signs of child endangerment.
- The system was created in response to a recent legal case in Iowa, which claims that Roblox’s platform design exposed a 13-year-old girl to predatory behavior leading to severe harm.
- Sentinel takes one-minute chat snapshots and uses AI to flag sexually exploitative language, compiling patterns for human review and potential law enforcement reporting.
- In the first six months of 2025, Roblox reported 1,200 suspected cases of child exploitation to the organization dedicated to combating child abuse and disappearance, while continuously enhancing its Sentinel AI system through updated detection indexes.
- Roblox strives to make its platform as safe as possible despite acknowledging no system is perfect and hopes open-sourcing Sentinel will help other platforms detect predatory behavior.
