Roblox now offers age-based accounts for your kids with additional parental controls
The platform said the new tiers add stricter defaults, parental controls and facial age checks, and 16-year-olds will move to standard accounts automatically.
- On June 16, 2026, Roblox announced a global rollout of age-based accounts—Roblox Kids and Roblox Select—designed to create age-appropriate experiences for users under 16.
- Roblox Kids covers ages 5 to 8 with the platform's strictest safety settings, while Roblox Select covers ages 9 to 15 and opens access to moderately rated games; both exclude sensitive topics and free-form drawing tools.
- Parents can link their accounts to manage gameplay activity, content ratings, and spending limits, while new features include granular game blocking and an approval system allowing access to specific titles outside default catalogs.
- Dr. Elizabeth Milovidov, senior director of parental advocacy at Roblox, described the settings as "protective walls," saying "Every day, we are looking at building these protective walls, and it's continuous improvement."
- While users transition to standard accounts at 16, critics cite past security incidents involving Persona, the third-party vendor used for face capture, as concerns regarding the platform's mandatory age verification technology.
