Jenrick: I’ll back OBR but there’ll be no more cosy consensus
Robert Jenrick pledges reforms to the Office for Budget Responsibility and Bank of England policies, promising full costing of Reform UK's fiscal promises and challenging current migration assumptions.
- In his first major outing for Reform UK, Mr Jenrick told a City of London audience that he will not abolish the OBR but `reform` it, and said the Bank would remain independent.
- With concerns about net zero, Mr Jenrick said the OBR's creation aimed to instil fiscal discipline, which he endorses, and he described net zero efforts as a `distraction`.
- He proposed running competitions to recruit `superforecasters` and to pay competitive salaries, and vowed to `break up this cosy consensus` at the Office for Budget Responsibility.
