ABC Renews ‘R.J. Decker’ for Second Season
The renewal follows a spring run that drew more than 15 million viewers for its premiere, ABC said.
On Friday, ABC announced the second-season renewal of R.J. Decker, completing the network's full scripted slate for the 2026-27 broadcast season.
Inspired by Carl Hiaasen's 1987 novel Double Whammy, the series stars Canadian actor Scott Speedman as a private investigator and shot in the Wilmington area during 2025 and 2026.
The series premiere amassed over 15.2 million total viewers through 35 days of multiplatform viewing; while linear ratings lagged behind Will Trent and High Potential, it regularly cracked Hulu's Daily Top 10.
With this pickup, ABC renewed all 10 of its current scripted shows—seven dramas and three comedies—for the upcoming season, marking the first time the network recorded zero cancellations since at least 2012.
Future production in Wilmington remains uncertain for R.J. Decker's second season, though the network has one pilot still in contention: The Rookie: North, as it looks to expand its scripted slate.
