Rivian Refreshes Its 2027 R1 Lineup with New Trims and a Big Seating Upgrade
Rivian says the captain’s chairs are its most requested R1S feature, while new trim names and higher prices reshape the lineup.
Rivian is launching the 2027 model year R1S and R1T, featuring long-requested second-row captain's chairs that enable a six-seat configuration with a center pass-through for third-row access.
To align with the upcoming R2 compact SUV, Rivian replaced its complex motor-count naming scheme with three simplified tiers: Premium, Performance, and the halo Quad, promoting consistency across the lineup.
The 2027 R1S now starts at $83,990 and the R1T at $79,990, with captain's chairs requiring the $2,500 Sound + Vision package and costing up to $4,500 total depending on interior.
Enhancing capability, the R1T pickup receives new 20-inch Adventure All-Season wheels designed to improve off-road traction without sacrificing range; both models introduce Esker Silver liquid-metal paint.
Rivian leans into premium positioning as the R2 approaches, using the R1 lineup to generate high-end revenue and anchor the brand's luxury status amid intensifying competition.
