Montreal Under Severe Thunderstorm Watch Monday
Environment Canada said the storms could bring 40 to 50 millimetres of rain, large hail and power outages, with tornadoes also possible.
On Monday, Environment Canada issued alerts warning of severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes across southern Quebec, targeting the Outaouais, Laurentians, Lanaudière, and Greater Montreal regions.
Meteorologists are tracking a "severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado," with the federal agency assessing the impact level as "moderate," with "high" confidence in its forecast.
Environment Canada issued a red warning for possible tornadoes in Pembroke, Petawawa, and Cobden on Monday, while heavy rainfall of 40 to 50 millimetres could trigger sewer backups and urban flooding.
People should take cover immediately in a basement or sturdy shelter when threatening weather approaches and refrain from nautical activities while preparing for potential local hydro outages.
Conditions improve Tuesday and Wednesday as clouds dissipate, with Montrealers expecting a mix of sun and cloud Tuesday and sunny skies Wednesday, temperatures holding steady around 26 Celsius.
