Standard Chartered Adds Ripple's RLUSD to Crypto Custody
Custody is live for eligible institutional clients, while the planned LMAX collateral link still needs documentation, testing and approvals.
- On Monday, Standard Chartered launched institutional custody for Ripple USD on the XRP Ledger through its DIFC branch, enabling eligible institutional clients to hold the $1 stablecoin via regulated infrastructure.
- The bank is working with Ripple and LMAX Group to enable collateral management, allowing institutions to use RLUSD held in custody as collateral on LMAX platforms without transferring tokens to the trading venue.
- Standard Chartered, managing nearly $450 billion in assets, entered a multi-year partnership involving $150 million in Ripple financing to support LMAX operations and institutional digital asset access.
- While custody support is operational, the bank confirmed Monday that collateral functions remain pending final documentation, testing, and internal approvals before clients can access margin funding or settlement services.
- Joseph Goh, head of Asia-Pacific at Singapore-based crypto investment bank Areta, noted that regulated custody connected to a global bank is becoming valuable infrastructure for digital assets.
