Plaid Cymru's Rhun Ap Iorwerth to Become First Minister Within Days
Plaid Cymru won 43 seats, and two Green MSs are expected to give ap Iorwerth the votes needed to secure the top job.
On Tuesday, Plaid Cymru leader Rhun ap Iorwerth is set to become Wales' First Minister after securing the largest bloc with 43 Members of the Senedd.
Baroness Eluned Morgan, the outgoing First Minister, resigned last week after losing her seat, ending Labour's hold on the position since the Welsh Parliament was established over two decades ago.
Wales Green Party leader Anthony Slaughter confirmed his two members will back ap Iorwerth, citing a "clear mandate," while Labour's nine members and Lib Dem Jane Dodds plan to abstain.
Reform Senedd members nominated their leader, Dan Thomas, for the position, though the Senedd must first elect a new Llywydd as Plaid MS Elin Jones steps down.
With the expanded Senedd now comprising 96 members, ap Iorwerth plans to form a minority government, appointing up to 17 ministers starting Wednesday, May 13.
