What We’ve Learned About COVID-19 Since the Pandemic
The CDC says updated shots still cut severe illness and death, and 2024-25 data showed 76% effectiveness in young children.
On Sunday, US Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told CNN's Dana Bash that Covid-19 lockdowns caused the "most damage" to the country during the pandemic.
Kennedy claimed that intensive care units "were empty all over the country, including in New York at the height" of the pandemic, while also blaming Dr. Anthony Fauci for "mismanaging" the health crisis.
Federal data contradicts these claims, showing that by the end of 2020, more than 90% of ICU beds were occupied in a third of all hospitals, with 19 states reporting less than 15% capacity remaining in 2022.
Dr. Jake Scott, an infectious disease physician at Stanford, denounced the interview as "fraught with misinformation" and "lies," noting his personal mission to combat false vaccine claims.
Covid-19 remains a significant public health issue, with hundreds of Americans dying each month and millions living with long Covid, though vaccines continue providing protection against severe disease and hospitalization.
