RFK Jr.: ‘No cuts on Medicaid’ in ‘big, beautiful’ law
UNITED STATES, JUL 17 – The budget law cuts over $1 trillion from Medicaid over 10 years, risking closures of rural hospitals and loss of coverage for millions dependent on the program, experts say.
- On July 4, President Donald Trump signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which includes $900 billion in Medicare cuts, significantly impacting healthcare funding.
- The bill uses stricter work requirements to fund its tax-cut extension, law’s goal is reducing fraud and waste in Medicaid, President Trump and Republican leaders in Congress said.
- In York County, one in five residents rely on Medicaid, Gunderson said, and over 9,000 could lose coverage; Lesley said, without Medicaid, she and her husband could not afford their son’s care.
- Sisk warned rural hospitals like Olympic Medical Center may cut services, lay off staff or shut down entirely, and that reduced access to Medicaid could delay mental health care, increasing emergency service strain.
