Revelstoke's Yorke Parkin splashes Canadian Special Olympics with 2 medals for B.C.
Parkin earned gold in the 100-metre individual medley and silver in the 50-metre breaststroke, with four personal bests at the qualifying meet.
Revelstoke athlete Yorke Parkin topped the podium at the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Medicine Hat, Alberta, last week, securing two medals as a swimmer.
The 18-year-old multi-sport athlete Parkin previously won three gold medals at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Italy and arrived following a busy year of provincial competitions across British Columbia.
On Wednesday, August 12, Parkin finished first in the 100-metre individual swim medley, and on Thursday, August 13, he earned silver in the 50-m breaststroke, achieving four personal bests.
Team BC Chef de Mission Michelle Cruickshank said, "Our athletes have worked incredibly hard," as the province's athletes collectively earned 101 gold, 123 silver, and 133 bronze medals.
The Medicine Hat games served as qualifiers for the 2027 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Santiago, Chile, with athletes awaiting announcements regarding their eligibility to represent Canada.
