Negotiations between Ukraine and the European Union on new terms of trade after the end of the preferential regime could be completed within a few months.
The European Union's (EU) duty-free trade with Ukraine ends in June, with tariff quotas being restored for several dozen product categories. Politicians say it's temporary, Ukraine is counting losses, and Lithuanian growers and producers are not feeling euphoria.
The release of tariff quotas for the import of Ukrainian grain, sugar, poultry and other commodities into the EU ended at the beginning of June. The European Commission has failed to negotiate a permanent option for the liberalization of trade with Ukraine. According to earlier statements by Ukrainian officials, the end of the regime will mean an export loss for Ukraine of around three billion euros, or almost 75 billion crowns.
Customs measures to stimulate the import of Ukrainian common wheat and barley into the European Union have been in force since 6 June 2025, a measure welcomed by the General Association of Wheat Producers (GPB).
