Three people trapped in B.C.’s Red Chris mine, Premier David Eby says
BRITISH COLUMBIA, JUL 23 – The miners are uninjured and located in a refuge station with adequate supplies after two ground collapses blocked access and cut communications, Newmont Corp. said.
- Three miners are trapped underground at Red Chris copper and gold mine after two fall-of-ground incidents Tuesday morning, Premier David Eby announced Wednesday.
- A fall of ground, Dunbar said, occurs when rock separates from tunnel walls, is hard to predict, and stems from rock mass failures and drilling activity.
- According to Newmont, the refuge station offers food, water and ventilation for an extended stay, operations are paused and specialist teams are being assembled.
- Mining Minister Jagrup Brar dispatched a geotechnical inspector to assist rescue efforts, while Premier David Eby said `B.C. miners are the best in the world`.
- The Ministry of Transportation expedited a permit for heavy equipment transfers from Brucejack Mine, and Premier David Eby said he has briefed Ontario Premier Doug Ford.
