From Rescue to Recovery, a Rescued Schnauzer Poodle Makes Border Patrol History in Texas
Chloe completed a five-week Border Patrol canine course and is now deployed with Agent Miguel Carrillo to support employees and families after traumatic incidents.
- On May 15, Chloe became the first rescue dog to graduate from the Border Patrol Canine Academy as a Critical Incident Response Canine, sworn in by Academy Director Stephen Crump before relocating to the CBP New Orleans Sector, Baton Rouge Station.
- Abandoned in New Mexico, Chloe was pulled from the Deming County Humane Society's euthanasia list on February 10, 2026, by the Animal Rescue League after the Border Patrol established the program following the May 24, 2022, Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas.
- Chloe successfully completed the five-week Border Patrol Critical Incident Response Canine Handler Course with Border Patrol Agent Miguel Carrillo and now deploys across the Gulf Coast region to provide trauma support to federal agents and their families.
- Following the line-of-duty death of Marshal Drew Hanson on July 13, 2026, Chloe and Carrillo attended his services to provide comfort to his family, colleagues and loved ones. She also visits area hospitals supporting patients recovering from severe illness.
- "Chloe's journey is a powerful reminder that with patience, purpose and a second chance, extraordinary things are possible," Carrillo said, describing them as "a calm and supportive team" serving those who protect the nation.
