Samsung's Galaxy S27 Series Could Be in for some Major Battery Upgrades
Samsung said the new battery design boosts energy density and enabled a 5,000 mAh pack in the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra while preserving a thin profile.
- On Thursday, Samsung Electronics Executive Vice President at Mobile R&D Office Moon Sung-hoon confirmed the Galaxy Z8 foldable series now uses silicon-carbon batteries to increase energy density within the same volume.
- To improve safety, Samsung redesigned the entire battery system—anode, cathode, and separator—achieving a record-thin 4.1-millimeter profile while increasing capacity 14 percent over its predecessor.
- The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra features a 5,000 milliampere-hour pack and supports up to 45-watt super-fast charging, reaching about 67 percent charge in just 30 minutes.
- Samsung is considering expanding silicon-carbon technology to the Galaxy S27 series, with rumors indicating the S27 Pro and S27 Ultra could reach typical capacities of 5,200 and 5,700 milliampere-hours.
- While Chinese competitors have already adopted silicon-carbon technology, Samsung prioritizes user confidence. "No matter how advanced the materials are, all our efforts are meaningless if users do not feel comfortable," Moon said.

Considering that this is a smaller device, that's already quite impressive for Samsung. Samsung Galaxy S26 …
Samsung Galaxy S27 Battery Leaks Signal End of 5,000mAh Era
Samsung has held its Galaxy S Ultra models to a 5,000mAh battery for years. That limit defined the S20 Ultra through the S26 Ultra. Fans complained. Competitors pulled ahead with larger cells. Now fresh leaks point to a clear break. The Galaxy S27 Ultra could arrive with a 5,700mAh typical capacity. The S27 Pro might land at 5,200mAh. Both gains come from silicon-carbon battery technology already proven in Samsung’s latest foldables. The shift a…
Samsung's Galaxy S27 series could be in for some major battery upgrades
