Report: Ohio Renters Need to Make $22.51 an Hour to Afford 2-Bedroom Apartment
OHIO, JUL 17 – The hourly wage needed to afford two-bedroom apartments in Ohio rose 40.7% since 2020, while 21% of jobs pay less than required, worsening housing affordability challenges.
- On Thursday, the National Low Income Housing Coalition and the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio released a report showing Ohio’s housing wage gap has doubled in the past five years.
- Despite recent wage gains, wages have increased in recent years but rents have risen much faster, COHHIO Executive Director Amy Riegel said, highlighting the growing gap.
- Data shows 21% of jobs in Ohio don’t meet the housing wage requirement, indicating nearly 1.2 million jobs in Ohio’s workforce can’t afford a two-bedroom apartment, the report says.
