Flyers Sign Michael Bunting in Free Agency to Shake up Roster
Michael Bunting adds energy and scoring depth after the Flyers opened 0-2-2, according to reports.
- On Tuesday, the Philadelphia Flyers signed veteran forward Michael Bunting to a one-year, $1.2 million contract. The move aims to provide "some spark," as Darren Dreger reported, following the team's winless 0-2-2 start.
- Since his breakout seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs playing alongside superstar Auston Matthews, Bunting has traveled across the NHL. He most recently split the 2025-26 season between the Nashville Predators and Dallas Stars.
- Posting 33 points in 74 games last season, the winger scored 13 goals and 31 points with Nashville. After a deadline trade to Dallas, he struggled and appeared in only one postseason contest due to injury.
- Reuniting with familiar faces, Bunting joins Head Coach Rick Tocchet, who coached him with the Arizona Coyotes. He is expected to create scoring chances in the "dirty areas" of the ice for Philadelphia.
- General Manager Danny Briere orchestrated the low-risk deal to help turn around the team's early-season skid without sacrificing future assets. The organization hopes the veteran's energy will stabilize the bottom six and correct their trajectory.
