Report: Apple’s smart home push includes LG-made doorbell, lock, thermostat, more

LG will handle manufacturing and support for the accessories, which include a video doorbell, thermostat and security cameras, Bloomberg reported.

  • Apple is collaborating with LG on a new lineup of smart home devices, including a video doorbell, thermostat, and security cameras, according to Bloomberg. The products will feature LG branding while integrating with Apple's upcoming smart home hub.
  • This arrangement allows Apple to expand its smart home ecosystem without shouldering full manufacturing costs and complexity. LG, a long-time display partner for Apple, will handle production and product support for the new devices.
  • Regulatory filings reveal the lineup includes a smart deadbolt lock with UWB support for automatic unlocking. Several devices will support smart home protocols Thread and Matter, facilitating a "formal reboot" of HomeKit.
  • Apple's new smart home hub will launch on October 13 with a 6-inch display. Bloomberg reported that the LG-branded accessories are "at least a few more months" from reaching consumers.
  • Beyond this collaboration, Apple is also planning privacy-centric home-monitoring devices and an in-home security service. LG has sought regulatory approval in recent weeks and requested that product details remain confidential until early next year.
