Rep. Andy Barr gets coveted Trump endorsement in Kentucky Senate race to replace McConnell
Trump’s endorsement and Morris’s exit could strengthen Barr as 29% of voters remained undecided in the latest poll, aides said.
- On Friday, President Donald Trump endorsed Rep. Andy Barr for Kentucky's open U.S. Senate seat, calling him a 'Proven Political Winner' and urging voters to back him in the May 19 primary.
- Entrepreneur Nate Morris withdrew from the race after Trump asked him to 'step aside' 16 minutes before the endorsement, accepting an ambassadorship and stating 'When President Trump asks you to serve your nation, you answer the call.'
- In the most recent Emerson College Polling and FOX56 survey, Barr led with 28% support compared to 21% for former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron and 15% for Morris, with 29% undecided.
- Former Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson told WHAS11 the race was effectively over, saying 'Between Morris being asked to step aside for an ambassadorship and the endorsement of Barr, unfortunately for Cameron, this race is over before the Call to the Post.'
- The Republican nominee will face Democrat Charles Booker or Amy McGrath on November 3, 2026, to replace retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell, with Republicans heavily favored in a state where Trump won 64% in 2024.
