'Remarkable' temperatures expected in parts of UK as temperatures set to hit 27C
The warm spell will stay below heatwave criteria, with the Met Office forecasting 25C in the southeast and dry conditions for much of the country.
On Tuesday, September 29, 2026, temperatures across the UK will reach 27C as warm air from France and Spain moves in, with southern and eastern areas experiencing notably warm conditions.
Met Office Chief Forecaster Matthew Lehnert attributed the warmth to a deep Atlantic low-pressure system pulling warmer air northward, with its first influence helping drive temperatures higher on Tuesday.
Wednesday will bring a sharp shift as a weather front moves west to east; Met Office deputy chief forecaster Steven Keates warned, "many places will see around 10mm of rain, with in excess of 40mm possible in some isolated spots."
Heading toward the weekend, rainfall will ease and the Met Office expects a "weekend of pleasant weather for many, with some sunshine" after the midweek disruption.
Looking ahead to October, the Met Office predicts temperatures will remain "warmer than average," though forecasters cautioned, "At this stage, it is simply too early to determine exactly what winter 2026-27 will bring.
