Kelowna's Tent City Residents Relocate to New Site Nearby
Bylaw says the transitional site can hold 35 residents as crews clear Tent City to reopen part of the Rail Trail.
- On Wednesday, April 29, Kelowna began relocating tent city residents to new sites at 740 Weddell Place and 735 Weddell to facilitate reopening of the Rail Trail, which has been closed since March 2025.
- Bylaw services supervisor Nick Bonnet coordinated the relocation following weeks of preparation starting in early April, using letters and notices to help residents prepare for the transition.
- The transitional support site at 735 Weddell provides space for 35 residents, with the city partnering with Kelowna Gospel Mission to assist with the move and provide necessary support.
- Bonnet reported the transition has unfolded smoothly, noting that officials have received positive feedback from residents regarding the new temporary sheltering arrangements.
- City crews expect to finalize the relocation today, allowing officials to create a schedule for fully reopening the Rail Trail for public use in the coming weeks.
