Regina police arrest Calgary man accused of trafficking woman for two years
Police say the six-month Project Anchor probe led to eight charges after investigators traced alleged trafficking across western Canada.
On May 27, 28-year-old Abdoulaye Gadjiko made his first appearance in Regina Provincial Court following his May 20 arrest in Calgary, facing eight charges including human trafficking and money laundering.
Regina Police Service investigators launched the six-month investigation, dubbed 'Project Anchor,' last December after receiving a tip about a woman being trafficked in the sex trade across western Canada.
More than 30 officers from the Regina Police Service Vice Unit, Calgary Police Service, and Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team collaborated on the case, searching four residences, one business, and a vehicle in Calgary.
Regina Police Chief Laurel Marshall stated that human trafficking investigations are "extremely complex, most often cross borders and require extensive collaboration between agencies," emphasizing victim safety as the priority.
Police encourage anyone with related information to contact their local service, while the Canadian Human Trafficking Hotline provides support 24-hours a day at 1-833-900-1010 for those seeking assistance.
