U.K. Teen Henry Nowak's Murder Fuels Protests as Far-Right Politicians Claim Response Shows "Two-Tier Policing"
Hundreds gathered after the murder case and police response sparked outrage, with two arrests made as officers faced bricks, chairs and flares.
On Tuesday, hundreds of protesters clashed with law enforcement in Southampton, England, following the murder of 18-year-old student Henry Nowak, hurling rocks and flares at riot police.
Public outcry erupted after police body-cam footage showed officers handcuffing Nowak while he lay dying, ignoring his pleas that he had been stabbed by Vickrum Digwa, who was sentenced on Monday.
Far-Right activist Tommy Robinson and actor Laurence Fox joined the crowd, while Reform UK leader Nigel Farage claimed Nowak was 'treated in a way that meant an accusation of a racial slur was treated more seriously than an act of murder.'
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood condemned the 'completely unacceptable' violence, warning that misinformation online worsens the situation while the Nowak family urged the public not to 'allow this murder to turn communities against one another.'
The Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating the officers' actions, with a report expected within three months, while the National Police Chiefs' Council will review anti-racism guidance blamed by critics for the arrest behavior.
