Reform MPs given 24-hour protection following Ann Widdecombe’s death
Reform said the protection was offered as a precaution while police investigate the death of the 78-year-old former MP.
Reform MPs are receiving 24-hour security protection following the death of Ann Widdecombe, with the party funding this precautionary measure.
The 78-year-old former Conservative MP was found dead at her Haytor home on Wednesday with serious injuries; police arrested a 28-year-old man in South Yorkshire on July 11 on suspicion of murder.
Police believe Miss Widdecombe was killed at 12.30pm on Thursday, half an hour before she was scheduled to appear on a Channel 5 programme via Zoom.
Reform leader Nigel Farage visited Devon on Saturday to lay a wreath, describing the death as "a terrible reflection on modern Britain."
Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman urged the public not to speculate about the investigation, warning such actions are "potentially harmful" to the case and distressing to the family.
