Reform donations row overshadows party's moment to lay out big ideas
Two senior aides stepped down after Channel 4 showed Reform figures discussing a banned foreign donation and polling payment, as the party denied wrongdoing.
- On Friday, Reform UK dropped senior aides James Orr and Dan Jukes after a Channel 4 News documentary alleged they conspired to accept £32,500 in illegal American funding for political polling commissioned earlier this year.
- Investigative group Verbatim conducted the sting operation, with reporters posing as an American financier and his UK-based son to expose the alleged scheme where the party discussed concealing the origin of foreign donations.
- Addressing the allegations in Birmingham, Reform leader Nigel Farage dismissed the claims as "loose pub talk, including a couple of boasts that simply were not true," while he and Jukes alleged "entrapment."
- The Electoral Commission has contacted the Metropolitan Police to review the claims, stating it is "considering all relevant information" regarding whether accepting foreign payments constitutes a criminal offence.
- Newly published Electoral Commission registrations revealed that Eldridge Capital Management Services LTD, tied to Chelsea FC co-owner Todd Boehly, donated £75,000 to the party earlier this year.
