Red Sox designated hitter Masataka Yoshida leaves game vs. Pirates with left hamstring tightness
The Red Sox said Yoshida left after a third-inning double and was replaced by Anthony Seigler.
On Saturday, Boston Red Sox designated hitter Masataka Yoshida left the game against the Pittsburgh Pirates with left hamstring tightness after sustaining the injury while running to second base.
The 33-year-old hit a double down the right-field line in the third inning but developed a noticeable limp as he approached second base, forcing him to limb off with a trainer.
Yoshida has been vital to Boston's 2026 turnaround after missing much of 2025 due to right shoulder surgery, batting.307 over his last 30 games with three home runs and 17 RBIs.
Second baseman Anthony Seigler replaced Yoshida as the designated hitter, though the Red Sox have not disclosed the severity of the hamstring injury or timeline for his return.
Interim manager Chad Tracy announced that Roman Anthony, Trevor Story, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa will begin rehab assignments in coming days, providing depth as Boston manages multiple injuries this season.
