What was a small wildfire reported about 14 miles east of Thermopolis on Wednesday evening has exploded to an estimated more than 20,000 acres Thursday. The Red Canyon Fire has also prompted some evacuations.

THERMOPOLIS, Wyo. — The Red Canyon Fire, a naturally ignited wildfire first noticed Wednesday, has exploded in just a day to cover 20,000 acres. As the fire has grown, evacuations have forced residents out of the area and Bureau of Land Management law enforcement have assumed authority of connecting roads.
