Tragedy as Groundsman Dies at 55 in Freak Accident at Iconic F1 Grand Prix Track
- A 55-year-old groundsman died after falling 23 feet into a water basin at the Spielberg Circuit on Wednesday morning.
- While using a motorized scythe, he slipped and fell into a deep water retention basin, where he struggled to get out.
- A co-worker along with a police officer entered the basin in an effort to rescue him, but their attempts were complicated by the water’s murkiness and depth until firefighters arrived on site.
- First responders recovered the man and made efforts to revive him, but their attempts failed, and he was declared deceased on site.
- The Red Cross provided crisis support for colleagues, and Red Bull has not yet issued a statement ahead of the June 29 Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring.
