Federal Finance Minister Klingbeil and five other EU resort colleagues have campaigned for a stronger taxation of oil companies. In a joint letter to the Irish EU Presidency, Portugal, Spain, Austria, Italy, Poland and Germany plead for a so-called over-profit tax.
Fuel prices have become more expensive as a result of the Iran war and burden motorists. Meanwhile, oil companies benefit from higher profits. The finance minister wants to change that.
At the pump, prices continue to rise, and the profits of the energy companies increase rapidly. Federal Minister of Finance Lars Klingbeil (SPD) now wants to tax more strictly together with other EU countries.
