Sri Lanka tourist arrivals up 14.43-pct to May 21

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s tourist arrivals from May 1-21 increased 14.43 percent from a 79,431 a year ago to 91,785, with most visitors still coming from India, data from the island’s tourism promotion office showed. There were 31,635 visitors from India, making up 34.5 percent of total arrivals, followed by the UK with 6,195 which made up 6.7 percent of arrivals. Tourist accommodation establishments recorded around 490,300 tourist arrivals in April, or 22.5 percent more than in April last year, and 1.14 million overnight stays, which is 21.8 percent more than a year ago and the highest for the month of April so far.
