Recall issued for portable adult bed rails after two deaths reported following entrapment
About 122,000 Vive Health adult bed rails sold nationwide are recalled after two fatal entrapments linked to asphyxiation hazards, officials said.
- The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Vive Health are recalling three adult bed rail models sold on or before August 21, 2023, following two fatal entrapment incidents.
- Two deaths occurred in September 2024 when a 97-year-old man in Texas and a 93-year-old man in Florida became trapped and died as a result of entrapment associated with the rails.
- About 122,000 units were sold nationwide at medical supply stores and online between September 2019 and December 2025, priced between $45 and $90. The portable rails feature silver or white metal tubing.
- According to the CPSC report, anyone who owns the bed rails is advised to stop using them immediately and contact Vive Health for a full refund.
- Vive Health previously recalled units of model LVA1024 purchased after August 21, 2023. This recall expands to include the Vive Health Compact Bed Rail model LVA2009SLV and the Bed Rail Collection V model LVA2097SLV.
